Shortly after Chinese New Year 1952, I was sent to Fuzhou, the provincial capital, to attend an elementary school for children whose parents or brothers were martyrs and soldiers. I was eleven years old, and stayed in this boarding school until I graduated in the summer of 1953. The soldier with me had a badge that read: People's Liberation Army （PLA）.

1952年春节刚过，11岁的我被送到福州读省烈军属子弟学校（小学），直到1953年夏天毕业才又回到妈妈、弟弟身旁。下面这二张照片是那个时候拍的。跟我拍照的这位是崔叔叔。他是厦门驻军师参谋长的警卫员。
