I also took them to Oregon State Capitol, where we were free to roam around, peeped into the meeting chambers of the senate and state representatives. The governor's secretary even allowed us to walk into the governor's office, and posted for pictures. Such hospitality and trust only exist in a democracy where the government is indeed "of the people, by the people, for the people", just as Abraham Lincoln said about 150 years ago. That evening, we had a simple birthday celebration for my brother. Our three-year-old grandson Sage did not quite know who my brother was or from, but when he saw the picture today, he sang "happy birthday to you", just like last night. Happy all the way, and keep safe. |
