My class of three--my
treasured three
I
got a Christmas gift from one of the students in my small but
integrated class. In return, I wrote her this little verse.
You come in to the world, surrounded
By loving parents and brothers;
You play Chopin, you read Huckleberry
Finn;
You chauffeur blood-donors,
you cheer Saxons;
You learn their Spanish, and
you learn my Chinese.
How busily happy, how happily
busy!
How to you 4:30 is not too early!
(and how you asked for a class
at 5:30!)
How come that you go in for
everything good,
and how come that you possess
everything so good!
You come into Room 165,
Everyday (almost), cheerfully
(always).
Dressed to the season, to the
occasion,
With your pencils to sharpen,
Your smiles to brighten,
And your candies to sweeten.
Ah yes, your bag of sweet candies
And your card of nice words,
and your very good participation
In my class of three--my treasured
three.
Thank you, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
