Our modern life relies too much on electricity. Without it, we did not have heating and the Internet, and we could not cook food. Everything touched cold. We had cold breakfast, then cold lunch. In the afternoon, Hong drove over with some bread. They did not have power either. The streets were not hampered by fallen trees now, he said, but there were no traffic lights. He went back and soon returned. They had power at West Salem now, so our daughter-in-law boiled water and cooked a meal for us. How wonderful to have hot water and hot meal after all. The next day, Hong came again with phone charging stations, camping lights and a propane stove. Liqing was finally able to cook a hot meal, and that really tasted wonderfully sweet, warming our stomach as well as our hearts. A hot meal was really sweet, but what could be sweeter than a sweet son? I called Comcast two times about the Internet outage, and was told that it will not be back anytime soon. At least we can be thankful that we have heating and hot meals. |
