When we were on the road, we would ride where the surface was smooth. Sage, Misa and their friends, on the other hand, would always aim at bumpy terrain to test their will and skills. 6-year-old Misa did not need any of my help. She got her helmet on, and adjusted the height of her bike. Watching the kids on their bikes, or falling off before a second try, I was extremely happy for them, and in a larger sense, for myself--for we brought their dad here.

我们那个时候骑车，路会选平坦的骑。不像这个网页上的美国小孩们，骑车专找不好骑的陡坡和坎坎坷坷的地方。而且他们相当独立。六岁的小雨诗不仅自己戴好防护头盔，还自己调整自行车坐垫高度。 看他们变花样玩，尽兴玩，不怕摔打，我心满意足，十分高兴--替他们，也替自己。是我们把他们的爸爸带到美国的。

In my era (1950 to 1970's), bicycles were not something that every family, much less everyone could own, It was considered one of the three luxury commodities (the other two being watch and sewing machine). My brother and I would be thrilled if we could get hold of a bike and ride to nearby towns.
