Zhangzhou is 20 kilometers from my hometown Shima, but that was the place I went even before I recovered from my jet-lag. There, I met with my long time friend Sister Xiulan and her husband, Dr. Yang. When I said long time, I meant 49 years, for it was 49 years ago that I visited their hospital in Dongshan to give English lessons in my capacity as an English teacher in Fujian Broadcasting and Correspondence School in 1964.

Then, I taught in Zhangzhou Spare-time college in the 1980's. I made so many friends here and love them so much that I would proudly claim this city to be my hometown too.

It was really hot, as the thermometer pictures on the last row below showed, but the joy and happiness in meeting with lovely friends in a lovely city beat off all the heat.

Hometown Reunions 2007

漳州离石码二十公里。我到家后还没从时差恢复过来，就赶到漳州去。那里有许许多多的亲人和朋友。承蒙杨院长和秀兰姐的厚意，他们不仅送我和丽卿许多土特产，还设宴招待我们，并叫了我的一些学员朋友来作陪。

认识杨院长和秀兰姐是49年前的事。那时我在福建函授广播学校教英语，不时到地县巡回辅导。他们那时在东山岛的西埔医院，还不是“长”也不用“反聘”，没有客厅也没有钢琴，却有清白的瘦脸，清澈的目光。（见有关网页）1982年，杨院长被福建省政府授予省劳动模范；1989年，被国务院、卫生部授予全国劳模、卫生先进工作者称呼；1980年、1992年先后率队援外，并被卫生部授予中国援外医疗队模范队长称号。1992年经国务院批准受政府特殊津贴。（援自“今日世界杂志社” “大地之子” ）
