Fuzhou is indeed my second hometown. I spent the last two years of my elementary school here. I spent four years of college here, and I worked here from 1964 to 1969. Now I am coming here for a class reunion--of my elementary class 60 years ago.

If, after 60 years, most of the classmates still remember each other and love their teachers, there must be something very special about the class and their teachers.

We had 35 classmates in 1953. Of them, 6 have passed away, 9 do not have known addresses, but 17, including me, came to this class reunion. We came for each other, and for our beloved teachers: Mr. and Mrs. Ying.

Fuzhou has certainly developed and expanded a lot. Streets are overcrowded, like everywhere else, but buses are running, and senior citizens get to ride free. The two relatives I met both have good jobs, good housing, and good cars. My childhood friend Mr. Pan has none of them, though, but he was satisfied with the one-person subsidized apartment unit that was recently allotted to him.

These are the changes for the better, and I wish my former classmates and everyone else will continue to get better and do better.

前几天（10月21日）我去福州参加小学（福建省烈军属子弟学校）60周年同学会。到火车站时我的小学同学潘健飞仍然来接我，然后我们一起去看小学班主任应端章老师。54年前（1959年）我读大学时（福建师范学院），健飞也来火车站接我。然后我把行李交外语系接新生的，我自己跟健飞徒步去他位于象桥的家。当年（1953年）我们这个班有35名同学。其中6位已经逝世，9位不知下落。这次集会来了17个，有的60年不曾见过。我们来，为了一段共有的珍贵的过去，更为了我们的好老师应端章和林丽生。

如同其他城市一样，福州城发展极快。街道仍然拥挤，因为人太多。但公共交通很不错，70岁以上老人坐车还不要钱。我认识的两个亲戚都是社会的精英。他们有好工作，好房子，好汽车，日子过得十分潇洒。我的小学同学潘健飞什么都没有，但他也分到一套“廉租房”，有一房一厅一厕一厨。比起三四十年前的处境，他已经够满意了。

愿中国社会越变越好。愿我的老同学们和他们的家人，以及所有的中国人，日子过得越来越潇洒。
